The IRS has stated that most American citizens will receive their stimulus check payments before the end of April. If you have not filed your 2019 tax return, they will base your check amounts on your 2018 tax return. If you did not file a 2018 tax return, you should file one ASAP; if you are not required to file a tax return, then visit the IRS website to enter your payment information where it says "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here". If you owed taxes and did not provide your account information, then the IRS will mail your check to the address on your most recently filed tax return. If that address is no longer correct, then you can update your information on the IRS website where it says "Filers: Get Your Payment". The link to this web page is located here: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments
No you do not. The tax deadline has automatically been extended to July 15, 2020. If you have not filed a return by July 15th, then you can request an extension to file which will give you an additional three months to file.
Eligible individuals with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for single filers, $112,500 for head of household filers and $150,000 for married filing jointly are eligible for the full $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 married filing jointly. In addition, they are eligible for an additional $500 per qualifying child.
For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$112,500/$150,000 thresholds. Single filers with income exceeding $99,000, $136,500 for head of household filers and $198,000 for joint filers with no children are not eligible and will not receive payments.
Although some filers, such as high-income filers, will not qualify for an Economic Impact Payment, most will.
Taxpayers likely won't qualify for an Economic Impact Payment if any of the following apply:
If you own a small business of less than 500 employees, you may qualify for one of the small business loans that have become available during the pandemic to help keep your business open and your employees paid. For more information regarding these loans, eligibility, and how to start the application process, please contact your bank to assist you.
If you have either recently lost your job, been furloughed, or have had your hours reduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. Please refer to the EDD website to begin your claim and for more information: www.edd.ca.gov
The IRS urges taxpayers to be on the lookout for scam artists trying to use the economic impact payments as cover for schemes to steal personal information and money. Remember, the IRS will not call , text you, email you or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information – even related to the economic impact payments. Also, watch out for emails with attachments or links claiming to have special information about economic impact payments or refunds.
You will need your tax return in front of you to complete a few questions to track your refund. Once you have that on hand, go to IRS.gov, click the tab that says "Refunds", and then click the tab that says "Where'd My Refund?".
We hope the information listed here was helpful, but if you have additional questions or concerns, please visit the IRS' website at www.irs.gov .
